Three Moi University students are admitted at the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital after they were allegedly shot during Thursday night riots.
The riots were caused by anger over the decision by the management to close the institution indefinitely.
The three include a first-year male student who sustained a ruptured kidney caused by a bullet and two other learners; third and fifth year students sustained gunshot injuries.
Moi University Students Organization (MUSO) Secretary General Cornelius Kipkoech and the president Vincent Tarus visited the injured colleagues at the hospital.
They protested against what they termed as excessive use of force by police to quell the riots at the main campus.
They blamed the government and the police for the injuries inflicted on their colleagues.
Kipkoech asked President William Ruto to intervene and save the university from collapse.
Noel Otieno who is the postgraduate students’ chairperson said the university was on the verge of collapse with no learning going on in the last two months.
Otieno said students were angry with the closure of the university because parents had paid fees yet no operations were going on at the university.
Uasin Gishu County Police Commander Benjamin Mwanthi said there were riots at the university last night but they were investigating the incident.
“We are following up to know exactly what happened at the university,” Mwanthi said.
