AFC Leopards have enjoyed good form for most of 2024.
AFC Leopards head coach Tomas Trucha has set his sights on a top-three finish in the league this season, as his side also aims to secure victory in the FKF Cup to qualify for next season’s CAF Confederation Cup.
Following a resounding 3-0 victory over FC Talanta on Sunday, which propelled them to sixth place with 44 points, Trucha’s team remains seven points behind third-placed Tusker.
Despite the imminent likelihood of Gor Mahia clinching the league title, potentially by the end of the week, AFC Leopards still harbor hopes of clinching the FKF Cup, with only Kenya Police standing in their way until the final.
Speaking about their recent triumph over relegation-threatened Talanta, Trucha highlighted the team’s growing consistency as a key factor.
“We’ve shown remarkable consistency in our recent matches, securing two straight league wins and advancing to the FKF Cup quarterfinals. This speaks volumes about the fine form we’re currently enjoying.”
Expressing confidence in his team’s capabilities, Trucha emphasized their goal of achieving a top-three finish, which would mark their highest position since 2013.
Additionally, he believes they have what it takes to clinch the FKF Cup, providing a positive end to a season that commenced with challenges.
“I believe we can secure a position in the top three if we maximize our remaining five matches. We must sustain our momentum and strive to secure maximum points from each fixture,” Trucha asserted.
He further stated, “While the KPL title may be out of reach, we’re determined to represent the nation in the continental championship. Our only path now is through the FKF Cup.”
Leopards’ next monumental fixture is against Kenya Police, a game that will set up two back-to-back dates against the same opposition.
