World Cross Country champion Beatrice Chebet believes her dominant run to shut Ethiopians at the Diamond League Meeting in Doha is a great sign as she looks to achieve a great milestone at the Olympic Games.

Reigning World 5000m bronze medalist Beatrice Chebet believes her win at the Diamond League Meeting in Doha, Qatar is a sign of great things to come this Olympic season.

Chebet is bidding for a gold medal at the Paris 2024 Olympics and is doing all it takes to ensure she achieves her dream. She admitted that the race was difficult with tons of Ethiopians looking to claim the top prize and she had to dig deep for a win.

The two-time World Cross Country Champion noted that it was a great feeling to have won the race and also lauded her fans for cheering her on until she crossed the finish line at the event.

“I did not know what to expect tonight. Every race is difficult and even more when you are at the beginning of the season. So winning here was great, I really enjoyed it and it felt even better thanks to the presence of so many Kenyan fans in the stadium.

“I also ran for them, it usually helps when they cheer for you and expect the best from you. The big prize for me this year will be an Olympic medal in Paris. I will try for the gold of course, but any medal at the Olympics will be an amazing thing for me,” Chebet said.

Meanwhile, Chebet started the season with the cross country, where she was able to win the 80th Elgoibar Juan Muguerza International Cross country before finishing fourth at the National Cross-Country Championships which were also used as national trials for World Cross Country Championships in Belgrade, Serbia.

She was in a class of her own as she sought to defend her title, which she successfully did, outsmarting her strong compatriots to take the crown in 31:05.

Lilian Kasait and Margaret Chelimo finished second and third in the race with Emmaculate Anyango and Agnes Jebet Ngetich, the 10km world record holder, finishing fourth and fifth respectively.
