The US-based defender has complained about the number of yellow cards he has received so far which he feels is excessive despite committing few fouls.
Harambee Stars defender Nabi Kibunguchy has complained over the number of bookings he has received this season at his club Orlando City.
Kibunguchy was in the starting X1 for Orlando City B in their 3-1 win over New York Red Bulls in the US League One on Thursday morning and he was among the four players from his side who were cautioned.
It was the defender’s third yellow card of the season, and a second straight, in Orlando City B colours which has not gone down well with him as he feels he has been booked unfairly, going by the few number of fouls he has committed.
“At this point I think refs don’t like me just because. 3 fouls all year so far and 3 yellows,” Kibunguchy complained on social media.
With playing time in the senior Orlando City side difficult to come by for Kibunguchy, he has been forced to contend with stints in the second-string squad as he waits for his opportunities in the MLS.
Despite the concerns, Kibunguchy enjoyed a good night when Shak Mohammed gave Orlando a second minute lead before Yutaro Tsukada made it 2-0 four minutes later and the Japanese would put the result beyond doubt inside 34 minutes with his second and the team’s third goal.
New York scored the consolation via the penalty spot through Ibrahim Kasule in the 56th minute after Mohammed Sofo had been fouled in the box.
“Solid win today from the boys,” Kibunguchy said after the game.
The 26-year-old will hope to continue getting minutes in his legs ahead of Harambee Stars’ 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Burundi and Ivory Coast next month.
Kibunguchy made his Harambee Stars debut when he came on as a late substitute for Johnstone Omurwa during Kenya’s 5-0 thrashing of Seychelles in November.
