On Friday, 22nd March, a video released by Kensington Palace revealed Catherine Middleton, the Princess of Wales, has cancer.
In the video, Kate, 42, noted undergoing a successful non-cancerous surgery in London in January; however, the test turned out negative.
“In January, I underwent major abdominal surgery in London, and at the time, my condition was non-cancerous. The surgery was successful; however, the tests after the operation found cancer had been present,” said Kate in the video.
The Princess of Wales was then advised by her medical team to undergo a course of preventative chemotherapy.
According to Kate, this came as a huge shock to her and her husband, William, Prince of Wales. “We have been doing everything we can to process and manage this privately for the sake of our young family,” she said.
She added, “Having William by my side is a great source of comfort and reassurance too. As is the support and kindness shown by so many of you; it means so much to the both of us.”
The mother of three also appealed to the public to provide them with privacy during this period as she focused on getting better.
“We hope that you will understand that as a family, we now need some time, space, and privacy while I complete my treatment.
She also expressed optimism and looked forward to getting better and going back to work, “My work has always brought me a deep sense of joy, and I look forward to going forward when I am able, but for now, I must focus on making a full recovery.”
Kate also had a message of hope for the people and families of loved ones with cancer patients, urging them not to give up and to keep hope alive.
“At this time, I am also thinking of all those whose lives have been affected by cancer, and for everyone facing this disease, please do not lose faith or hope; you are not alone,” she concluded.
