On Tuesday, President Ruto made an unusual stop for prayer at the Western Wall while on a visit to Israel an act not done by many visiting heads of state.
The site located in the old city of Jerusalem is the last remaining outer wall of the ancient Jewish temple and an incredibly important site of modern Israeli history.
Rechael Ruto also joined other pilgrims at the Western Wall in Israel during his visit to the country. To pray at the wall, women should have their legs and shoulders covered (scarves are provided at the site) while men should cover their heads.
Although Nairobi does not officially recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, a senior adviser to Ruto called Jerusalem the capital on a visit to Temple Mount this week.
Ruto visited the Western Wall, and his predecessor, Uhuru Kenyatta, did so twice, in 2016 and 2020.
Kenyan President William Ruto met with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who praised the Kenyan president’s commitment to expanding ties with Israel.
