As Parliament prepares to debate the impeachment motion against Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, many Kenyans prefer Interior CS Kithure Kindiki as his potential replacement.
According to the latest Tifa polls, 37 per cent of Kenyans support Kindiki assuming the role if Gachagua is impeached.
Support for Kindiki is particularly strong in the Mt. Kenya region, where 58 per cent prefer him, compared to 30 per cent from other regions.
Only five per cent of respondents prefer Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi and Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro for the position.
Three per cent back Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru, while two per cent support Homa Bay County Chief Gladys Wanga.
Four per cent are indifferent and are willing to accept whoever President William Ruto picks in case Gachagua is impeached.
However, 33 per cent of Kenyans remain undecided on who should take over the role, with 16 per cent of those undecided from the Mt. Kenya region and 38 per cent from other regions.
Tifa also noted that the survey did not measure the popularity of the potential replacements.
The national survey was conducted from October 1 to October 4, 2024, using telephone interviews with 1,892 respondents across the counties, proportionate to population size.
The margin of error is +/- 2.25 per cent.
