Majority leader Kimani Ichung’wah proposes the purchase of new presidential jet

National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah has called for considerable budgetary allocation for the modernization of military equipment, including the aircraft.

Ichung’wah was speaking during Parliamentary proceedings on Tuesday afternoon, where he also proposed the purchase of a modern presidential jet.

“At times the military does come before the House looking for resources to modernize equipment. I have heard many members during the budget-making process criticize without knowledge, the modernization of military equipment,” he said.

“As we consider the next few years’ budgets, [let us] consider the modernization of our military equipment, including the aircrafts that are used not just in the military but also in the police, including the presidential jet.”

He commended the military for standing with families of fallen soldiers and asked for consideration regarding budgetary allocation to the force to be able to help in this endeavor.

The Majority Leader also sought to assure the House that the government has since launched a probe into the circumstances leading to last week’s helicopter crash that killed Chief of Defence Forces (CDF)General Francis Ogolla.

General Ogolla was laid to rest on Sunday at his home in Ng’iya, Siaya County as per his wishes to be interred within 72 hours of his death.

He was accorded with a 19-gun salute similar to the late former presidents Mwai Kibaki and Daniel Moi.

The Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition party has also called for both a judicial and Parliamentary inquest into the General’s death.
