Police are investigating claims by a man that he was robbed of Sh750,000 moments after he had withdrawn the cash from a bank in Nakuru town.
The victim is a manager at a children’s home in the Subukia area, police said.
He told police he had gone to a local bank in Nakuru and withdrew the cash on Wednesday afternoon for use at the children’s home.
As he was driving along Milimani Road heading back home he was blocked by a saloon car and three occupants who were armed with pistols and a pocket phone, alighted from the said car.
They then bundled him in their vehicle, leaving his car in the middle of the road.
He was later dropped at the Kiamunyi area and the suspects’ vehicle sped off.
He managed to return to his vehicle with the assistance of a bodaboda rider. At the vehicle, he said he found the cash and his mobile phone missing.
Police officers visited the scene and found the van without an ignition key parked in the middle of the road.
A small pocket phone make was recovered inside the vehicle. The victim was not injured during the drama.
The vehicle was towed to the police station yard for further police action.
This is the latest incident to be reported to the police.
Police are investigating the incident, with preliminary investigations revealing that it could have been an inside job.
The investigators plan to talk to the bank staff and review security footage to establish if any of the robbers were therein as the victim was being attended to.
Police have warned the public against carrying large sums of money.
The victims are trailed from the bank after withdrawals to their residences or places of work where they can be easily robbed or wounded in the process.
Officials say not all customers and bank staff are genuine.
Some of the thieves behind the trend pose as customers to identify customers making huge withdrawals before they alert their accomplices outside the bank.
Police say the racket involves bank staff, police and other robbers. Some of these robbers not only have guns but also handcuffs.
They are also suspected of having police radios and using different vehicles.
