A chilling incident occured in Emali, Makueni County on Tuesday after a man attacked a police officer before snatching his firearm.
Police said the officer and his colleague were guarding Kwitu DT Sacco when the incident happened.
The unknown man aged 35 years old is said to have crept to the officer armed with a panga that he had concealed by tucking it inside his trousers.
Police said the man removed the panga and cut the officer on the forehead inflicting him a deep cut.
The attacker then snatched the officer’s AK47 firearm with 30 rounds of ammunition and started running away while shooting to scare off the public.
Police with the help of the public pursued the suspect and recovered the firearm with 23 rounds of ammunition and the panga.
Police said the weapon jammed and the suspect did not know how to unlock it.
It was then that he was cornered by the locals and police.
Police said they were overpowered by the mob who stoned the suspect to death.
