Veteran Nigerian actor Amechi Muonagor passed away on Sunday, March 24, 2024, aged 61. This is following a battle with kidney disease and diabetes.
His health deteriorated from November 2023, when he first suffered a stroke.
A viral video making rounds on social media portrayed Muonagor in a state of dire health, as he appealed for financial aid.
In the footage, the actor appeared visibly frail, pleading for support to cover the costs of a kidney transplant, emphasizing the critical nature of his condition.
Concurrently, the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) had also initiated efforts to gather financial support for him.
Despite efforts to raise funds for his medical treatment, Muonagor’s condition continued to deteriorate.
Social commentator and chairman of Delta State Sports Association, Morris Monye expressed his grief on his X platform highlighting the collective effort to support Muonagor during his health crisis.
“He was a talented Nollywood actor whose presence our screens was truly masterful. We watched with concern as he battled health issues, offering whatever support we could to help him seek treatment in India,” Monye shared on his X platform.
His outstanding contributions were acknowledged in 2016 when he received a nomination for the AMVCA 2017 Best Actor in a comedy.
Muonagor was particularly renowned for his role as the father in the Nollywood comedy show “Aki and Paw Paw,” where he portrayed the parent of two mischievous teenagers.
Many of his fans have mourned his death on social media.
The news of his death comes as Nigerians still mourn the death of Nollywood star John Okafor alias Mr Ibu who also sought medical aid before his death. He died on March 2, 2024.
