Kirinyaga Woman Representative Njeri Maina has condemned critics who are calling for the resignation of Agriculture CS Mithika Linturi over the fertilizer scandal.
Speaking in Kisii on Saturday, March 23, at an event hosted by South Mugirango MP Sylvanus Osoro, Njeri Maina alleged individuals behind the fake fertilizer were out to taint the government’s reputation.
According to the MP, cartels looked for ways to disrupt President William Ruto from achieving his agenda of supplying farmers with subsidised fertilizers and lacked none, hence resorted to selling the counterfeit products.
“They thought that we cannot achieve our manifesto and supply fertilizer, plant and reduce food insecurity,” Maina alleged.
“The President said that mambo ni matatu. He knows what to do when issues go overboard. We will not allow anyone to derail the government agenda,” Maina urged President William Ruto to stamp authority and weed out the alleged cartels.
She was responding to Azimio politicians, led by Minority Leader Opiyo Wandayi who called for Ruto to fire Agriculture CS Mithika Linturi.
The UDA MP also weighed in on the nationwide health strike, and claimed that doctors were attempting to hold the government hostage to give in to their demands.
Doctors, she claimed, were running their own clinics while deserting patients in hospitals. She thus urged the medics to desist from the alleged practice and focus on their profession and service delivery before issuing more demands
“We won’t fund professionals who do not deliver as per their requirement,” Maina warned.
She also argued that health was devolved and the Parliament released Ksh.390 billion to fund operations in county hospitals.
“If the counties are unable to handle the devolved health role, let them revert it to the national government,” she stated.
