Salim Babu has stuck with the line-up that has started the last three matches as Kenya faces Tanzania in the U-20 AFCON zonal qualifier final.
Rising Stars head coach Salim Babu has confirmed his starting XI for the highly anticipated U-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) zonal qualifier final against Tanzania set to take place at the KMC Stadium in Dar es Salaam.
The stage is set for an explosive encounter between the two East African footballing giants as they battle for regional supremacy in the Cecafa U-20 final.
Both teams have already secured qualification for the 2025 U-20 AFCON tournament but the chance to lift the regional trophy adds a layer of intensity to this contest.
Salim Babu’s charges have been in exceptional form throughout the tournament, their only blemish being a goalless draw against Rwanda in the group stage.
In the semi-finals, Kenya demolished Burundi 4-0 in a statement victory that showcased their attacking prowess and defensive solidity.
On the other hand, Tanzania, the tournament hosts, are determined to exact revenge after suffering a narrow 2-1 loss to Kenya in the group stage opener.
That loss appeared to spark a resurgence in the Tanzanian camp, as they have since gone on an impressive winning streak.
They registered four consecutive victories, including a hard-fought 2-1 win against a resilient Ugandan side in the semi-finals.
With the home crowd behind them, Tanzania will be hoping to ride their wave of momentum and secure the regional title on their own turf.
Babu, confident in his team’s abilities, has opted to stick with a well-balanced starting XI that blends youthful energy with experience.
As per the competition’s rules, both finalists have already secured a berth in the 2025 AFCON U-20 tournament, but the title match will determine regional bragging rights.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) is expected to announce the host country for the tournament during its General Assembly in Addis Ababa on October 22.
