The late Chief of Defence Forces General Francis Omondi Ogolla is set to be laid to rest today, Sunday, April 21, 2024.
According to the family, General Ogolla is to be laid to rest within 72 hours after his death by his wish.
The fallen General is said to have preferred a simple burial with instructions requiring the family members to bury him without a coffin.
Following the conclusion of a memorial service staged in his honour at Ulinzi Complex on Saturday, the focus shifts to his Alego Usonga home where the four-star general is set to be laid to rest.
A burial programme seen by the Star indicates that remains of the Fallen General will leave the Mashujaa Funeral Home to Embakasi Garrison at exactly 6 am.
The body is to be flown to Kisumu and it is expected to arrive at the Kisumu International Airport by 8 am.
The burial service will be held at Senator Obama K’Ogello Primary School in Ng’iya Village, Siaya County.
All guests are expected to be seated at Senator Obama K’Ogello Primary School by 9 am.
The body will be transported by road from the airport to Senator Obama K’Ogello Primary School. It is expected to arrive by 9:30 am.
President William Ruto will arrive at Senator Obama K’Ogello Primary School at 9:45 am.
From 10 am to 12:55hrs, the mass recession for the General will be held.
It will entail opening prayers, welcoming remarks, eulogy, and tributes from family, friends representatives, church representatives, Millitary representatives and the government.
During the period, there will be sessions for Bible readings, sermons, family prayers and votes of thanks and announcements.
From 13:oohrs to 13:55hrs, the millitary rites and interment will follow.
This will entail a procession to the grave site at the General’s Mor Village in Siaya County.
There will also be a military reveille, a call traditionally used to wake soldiers for duty, but in death, it is appropriated to mean hope in the afterlife
A 1 minute of silence in honour of General Ogolla will then follow.
The millitary will then conduct the last post, used at military funerals to indicate that the soldier has gone to his final rest. During this point, his body will be lowered to the grave.
General Ogolla will then be accorded a 19-gun salute.
Family members and dignitaries present will then be allowed to lay wreaths on the grave of the late General Ogolla and later the millitary will perform the Nationa Anthem, ending the burial programme.
All activities are expected to end by 14:00hrs.
