Beatrice Chebet and Jacob Kiplimo will certainly be smiling to the bank following their dominant exploits at the World Cross Country championships that saw them win back-to-back titles.
Kenya’s Beatrice Chebet and Uganda’s Joshua Cheptegei will be smiling to the bank thanks to their dominant exploits at the World Cross Country Championships in Belgrade, Serbia.
The event saw the duo successfully defend their titles with Chebet shaking off competition from her compatriots in the women’s race and Cheptegei showing Ethiopians and Ugandans dust to claim the victory in the men’s race.
The duo’s hard work will not go unnoticed since they will receive hefty prize money to appreciate their hard work and perseverance.
As per World Athletics, the winners of the event will walk away with $30,000 meaning that Chebet and Kiplimo will receive about Ksh 3.9 million in their accounts.
The athletes who finish second, in this case, Lilian Kasait for the women’s race and Berihu Aregawi, will walk away with about Ksh1.9 million. Margaret Chelimo and Benson Kiplangat who finished third at the event will pocket a lucrative amount of about Ksh1.3 million.
World Athletics will not only award the top three finishers but also all the athletes who finished among the top six. The athletes who finish fourth will bag Ksh927,500 while the fifth and sixth-place finishers will bag Ksh662,500 and Ksh397,500 respectively.
Team Kenya walked away with the mixed relay title and they will have the honour of pocketing Ksh 1.5 million. Ethiopia, who finished second, will bag Ksh1 million while Great Britain, the third-place finishers, will bag Ksh795,000. The fourth team, Morocco, will bag Ksh530,000.
Kenya finished first with 11 medals and they will pocket Ksh2.6 million while Ethiopia, Uganda, and Great Britain who finished second, third, and fourth respectively will bag Ksh2.1 million, Ksh1.5 million, and Ksh1.3 million. The team to finish fifth and sixth will be awarded Ksh 1 million and Ksh530,000.
