Data from the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) indicates that the Thika Superhighway is the most dangerous road in Nairobi.
From January 1, to April 30, 2024 the road has recorded 13 deaths, as a result of road crashes.
The road is followed closely by Mombasa, Outering and Kangundo roads which recorded at least 12 deaths each.
This is not the first time these roads have been marked as the most dangerous The data shows that Nairobi roads alone accounted for 176 deaths.
Waiyaki Way accounted for 10 deaths in the same duration, while Eastern Bypass, Juja Road, Ngong Road and Northern Bypass recorded seven each.
Kiambu, Limuru, Murang’a, North Aiport and Southern Bypass recorded four fatalities each.Dagoretti, Lang’ata, Lungalunga and Naivasha Road recorded three each as Blank, Busia, Enterprise, Magadi, Racecourse, Red Hill link, Uhuru Highway, and Wangari Maathai recorded two deaths each.
The other roads recorded a fatality each.
From the fatalities, Pedestrians were the most victims at 89, followed by motorcyclists at 34, and passenger deaths at 20.
Some 12 driver and 12 pillion passengers lost their lives as well as nine pedal cyclists in the same period.
In Nairobi, private vehicles caused the most deaths at 40.
According to NTSA, 39 deaths were caused by unknown vehicles (hit and run), while Public Service Vehicles (PSV) caused at least 30 deaths.
Motorcycles contributed to at least 25 deaths while government owned vehicles and pedal cycles caused three deaths and one death respectively.
