A woman is seeking justice for her husband, who was purportedly assaulted by a police officer while in custody.
The victim, Nelson Mwasame, a 38-year-old father of four and a driver on the Kitale – Kapenguria route, was allegedly subjected to brutal treatment that left him bedridden and unable to walk.
Woman seeks justice after alleged police brutality
His wife, Rose, appealed to the government for intervention.
The mother of four children lamented about the issue in an emotional interview with TV 47.
“I want justice because he was the provider to the family. I have four children and two are in high school and I am jobless. I am appealing to the government or IPOA to intervene and ensure justice because this is very wrong. My husband should get justice. He is supposed to be taken to Eldoret for further treatment and KSh 30,000 but I don’t have that money. The government should intervene,” she said.
Why was driver arrested?
The ordeal reportedly began when a female passenger accused Mwasame of misconduct after he failed to stop at her desired destination.
This minor disagreement escalated when Mwasame dropped the passenger at the next stop, leading to a confrontation and subsequent arrest by the police.
The situation took a grievous turn when Mwasame was allegedly subjected to a brutal assault by a police officer while in custody at Kapenguria police station.
The victim suffered severe injuries to his private parts, leg, and abdomen, rendering him immobile and in excruciating pain.
“I was not lame, and I have been crippled by a human being. I need justice. I need the Government to help me. My leg has no sense and my private parts and abdomen are injured,” Mwasame told journalists.
