Rising Stars midfielder Zech Obiero excelled in Leyton Orient’s victory, earning Man of the Match with commanding midfield display.
Kenya national team U-20 midfielder Zech Obiero was voted Man of the Match after his solid display helped Leyton Orient secure a 3-1 win over Cheltenham Town in a League One fixture on Saturday, April 6, at Gaughan Group Stadium.
The 19-year-old commanded the midfield with zeal as Orient claimed maximum points in a match where he was replaced in the 73rd minute leaving a significant mark on the game with his outstanding performance.
The match kicked off to a sluggish start, with both teams struggling to create clear-cut chances.
However, the atmosphere electrified in the 34th minute when Ethan Galbraith broke the deadlock.
Receiving a pass from George Moncur, Galbraith unleashed a powerful 25-yard drive that sailed past the despairing dive of Cheltenham’s goalkeeper, Luke Southwood, giving Orient the lead.
Despite Cheltenham’s efforts to regroup, they fell further behind 10 minutes later.
Ollie O’Neill, a constant menace to the Robins’ defense, cut inside from the left and executed a stunning shot that curled into the far corner, doubling Orient’s advantage.
The visitors showed more intent after the break but squandered a golden opportunity to get back into the game when Orient’s goalkeeper Sol Brynn fumbled a set-piece, presenting Curtis Davies with a chance from close range. However, Davies failed to capitalize, missing the target from just four yards out.
Ruel Sotiriou sealed the deal for the home side in the 85th minute with his 11th league goal of the season, cementing Leyton Orient’s dominance. Although Joe Nuttall managed to score a late consolation for Cheltenham, it was not enough to dampen the spirits of the Orient fans or diminish the impact of Obiero’s midfield mastery.
